Dear Body,
We slept fairly well last night, and in fact with the exception of Sunday night’s windstorm we’ve been getting fairly decent sleep over the last couple of weeks. Yes, I’m just as amazed as you are.
In light of this fact, I’d appreciate greatly if we could avoid the experience of our energy levels dropping to near-comatose levels in the afternoon, manifesting partly as extreme dizzy spells. There’s no excuse for it, and it’s definitely interfering with effective and efficient job performance, as it’s hard to accomplish much of anything when one’s primary, nigh-overwhelming urge is to curl up in a ball and close one’s eyes.
Thank you,
The Management (aka This Little Grey Duck)

The mid-afternoon crash is (unfortunately) one of those physiological tendencies you can’t entirely avoid, if you happen to be one of the people for whom it’s common. Your best bet is to try to prevent it by staying very well-hydrated and eating some complex carbs an hour or so before you usually get the crash. If that doesn’t help, you might ask to be tested for hypoglycemia.
Oooh, I went through a case of the keyboard head-bob today too. I solved mine with a walk around the office and an energy drink. I find that heavy lunches are usually the culprit.
The culprit for my normal bad afternoons is a complete lack of food, which isn’t the case. Nor did I have a big or heavy lunch.
Let’s see… snacked on bag o’ chips (leftover from Chipotle the previous night) and some dried apples and dried pineapple during the noon hour. I keep a glass of water at hand almost all day, normally, and yesterday was no exception. The crash & dizziness started at about 1:30. At about 3:30 I went next door (7-11) for a “cheeseburger dog” and cup of cocoa. Eating helped for a very short while, but by a bit after 4:00 I was back to feeling awful.
The bus rides to and from the kids’ place was fun, let me tell ya.
So, I’m not sure what the hell happened. *sigh*
