Satisfactory: The Cathedral of Blueprinting

Yesterday an idea came to me. It was a tiny idea, but it involved spending a few minutes in the Blueprint Designer in Satisfactory. At the time, my Mk2 Blueprint Designer sat on a random square of floating foundation tiles a short jog away from my Hub space.

Then I thought, I can do better than this.

It’s been ages since I used those glass floors as roofing material. I’m quite pleased with how this turned out.

I found a (somewhat) better location, a bit further from the Hub but close enough and in a spot that should never be needed for actual production factory space. After laying down a 10×10 foundation grid I… added another row-and-column because you always give yourself more room than you think you need. I followed this with the creation of a raised platform made out of the various inverted half-pipe foundations, filled in with steel framework and topped with walkway tiles. Then I plunked down the Mk2 Designer.

Note the little ramp leading to the Designer’s console. That’s because you can’t (easily) just walk up those curved foundations.

The main reason for creating an actual building around the Blueprint Designer is power. (The secondary reason is the opportunity to build and decorate a big cube of a building, of course.) The device itself needs no electricity, but the Hoverpack (the Pioneer’s best friend when designing tall blueprints) requires available juice within a reasonable range. My answer was to run power under the floor and up along four columns surrounding the Designer itself, close enough to keep the Hoverpack happy but far enough away to avoid any weird interference with the Designer itself. (It’s a finicky beast sometimes.)

Never doubt my commitment to underfloor-delivered electrical power.
There’s just enough clearance that the Mk3 should fit underneath the roof. Barely. Probably.

After that it was just a matter of choosing an enclosure style (I went with the “clear windows and columns” again, because why not) and, perhaps most importantly, making sure all of this wouldn’t involve clipping into the local Mothra’s flight path.

Which it doesn’t! (Though it’s kind of close…)
