As Mari has already pointed out, this may be the lamest Friday Five of all time. So instead of merely complaining, I’m going to have a bit of fun with it. Afterward, if I can be bothered, I’ll submit some questions of my own. But first…
- Where are you right now? – In a galaxy known to Earthlings as The Milky Way. I think Earthlings have serious candy bar issues.
- What time is it? – About ten billion years since the formation of this iteration of the Cosmos. Give or take a few. (I lost count, okay? It could happen to anybody.)
- What are you wearing? – Clothing. It may be optional, but I’ve always believed that “clothes doth oft proclaim the man.” Polonious may have been a windbag, but he managed to stumble across a few good truths.
- Any people or animals around you? Describe them. – You don’t have the time. No, really. We’d be here for centuries.
- What are your plans for the weekend? – Didn’t you ask this question last week?

Every so often I check my “referrers” page to see how people are finding me. I wasn’t prepared for this, though.
A Google UK search for “latex kilt.”
Those are two words that just don’t go together, you know?
I don’t think I’ve ever talked about spanking or being spanked by a coworker. Nor am I aware of a “duck sex song.” Sorry, websearchers.
And for the record, I don’t have any pics of Aeka or Ryoko naked. (Of course, saying that just guarantees that I’ll get more “aeka naked” and “ryoko naked” Google searches. Oh well.) I could get my hands on some “cartoon females with weapons,” though, if that’s what you’re into. Dirty Pair, anyone?

Where to begin? Where to end?
- I spent the entire back half of yesterday’s workday adding personal information into the users in our NDS trees. For instance, Corporate has wanted phone numbers to show up in the Groupwise address book since, oh, two years ago. I made that happen yesterday. Yes, I’m a loser.
- Today has largely been spent completely rebuilding The Lab, the website that started out as a grand vision and is now something of a sad testament to the fact that I really didn’t know what I was doing three years ago. (One could argue that I still don’t, I suppose.) And yes, I did strip down and recycle the more useful bits of the current greyduck.net code. You can call it laziness, I call it expediency.
- The first two of the new Compaq computers (you know, the WinXP beasties we received a month ago?) have been placed. Every last technical hurdle has been cleared, including the Norton AntiVirus upgrade and the wonderful ZENworks Dynamic Local User trick. I can now place these machines with complete impunity. But that project is on hold until…
- …I complete the last four PD Streaming servers and ship them to Norfolk, Rochester and Wichita. I have until the end of next week to do so, and the last four will be the most time-consuming as they’re former LMiV machines that are running RedHat 6.1 and need a complete OS reinstallation. Fun, wot?
I’m not neglecting my updating duties. I’m just placing a higher priority on keeping my job. Call me strange…Update: Here’s the funny part. This journal entry is number 404. Oddly enough, I spent over an hour arguing with IIS and PHP about how to handle 404 errors. The trick is to make sure that the PHP ISAPI handler is set to check for the existence of the document. Otherwise a missing document is presumed to exist (!) and the site visitor sees a bunch of PHP error gibberish. I won’t even go into the trouble I had upgrading to the latest PHP version. Feh.

Music Video Progress Report
You might remember that a stated goal of mine for December was to complete my next AMV, a project I undertook at the request of one of my coworkers. That obviously didn’t happen, but all is not lost. The most crucial 41 seconds (give or take a second) of the video is now locked in and pending review by Justin Emerson. That is, if I can get hold of the guy. He did promise to critique my efforts, but that was several months ago.
If this works it will be far and away the coolest video I’ve made, even factoring in that I’m using two “overused” sources. So far I’m thrilled with how the crucial centerpiece has turned out. (I can now proceed to build the rest of the video around it. No worries.)
