  • Friday One Two Three Four Five

    • What is one thing you don’t like about your body? – I have to pick one thing? Okay, then, I hate my teeth. I really do. Bleah.
    • What are two things you love about your body? – You’re kidding, right?
    • What are three things you want to change about your home? – We want a new fridge, we want to completely “rebuild” the deck area in the back yard, and we want high speed internet access somehow. Anyhow.
    • What are four books you want to read this year? – I don’t know yet. Just give me something I haven’t read before that doesn’t suck. Four somethings new, if we want to follow the spirit of the question.
    • What are five promises you have kept to yourself? – I don’t make promises, least of all to myself.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go back to watching paint dry. I mean, watching the Quantum piece of crap Snap useless damned Server as it rebuilds its spare drive. It should be done in another two hours or so…

  • Two geeky tidbits for Thursday

I left work at noon today so I could watch the kids while Wendi does important-type stuff like “job-related activities.” Her schedule is less flexible than mine.

The titular tidbits (gee, that sounds naughty!):

    1) The T1 switchover happened, and I didn’t feel a thing. Yay, Qwest. I’m sorry I didn’t update this morning when it was over. Eep.

    2) I’m now using two of the tools found at Textism: The Referer Page tool and the Google Hilite tool. Now when visitors arrive here via Google they should see their search terms highlighted on the page. Nifty, wot?

If I wasn’t so deeply attached to Monaural Jerk I might give Dean Allen’s Textpattern a spin when it comes out. There are some very, very interesting things (to me) in that system. Maybe I’ll use that the next time I decide to host another journal site…

  • Downtime Advisory, 23 Jan 2003

It’s not as though hordes of websurfers visit this site at 7:30am Pacific time, but at about that time tomorrow morning Pacifier/Northwest Link/Europa/whoever will have US West… er, Qwest moving our T1 from the Vancouver office to the downtown Portland office. We may be “offline” for up to half an hour. We may be offline longer, actually, but everyone involved insists it should only take five minutes.

By the way, this also means Entercom’s main website will be unavailable for exactly the same period of time. The good news? The line costs are supposed to go down once the move is complete, and we should be entirely routed through the “new” Pacifier networking structure. Hopefully that translates to “fewer outtages,” but you won’t catch me holding my breath.

UPDATE: Yes, that means Mari and Wendi will be unavailable as well as Newsradio WORD. And webmail, for all three of us who get email on this machine.

  • It beats waiting for me to write something.

Lilith rants most amusingly about how good kids have it these days.

Mari watched a program on PBS last night that included a segment on “blogs.”

Maybe later today I’ll actually have something to write about, but don’t hold your breath…

  • I have friends. Who knew?

So, how did Sunday afternoon go? Splendid. Smashing. Wonderful. Awesome. And, now I’m out of good adjectives.

The recap is here if you’re interested. I defer to Mari’s version of events… more or less. (The phobia isn’t “straight lines,” Mari. It’s “remembering the correct cross streets.” Or something like that.)

I’d like to state for the record that, while I did almost get everybody lost, I managed to keep my spirits high during and afterward. If you knew “the old Me” this might shock and amaze you. I feel good about the fact that I was (and still am) able to laugh about the whole thing. Let’s hear it for “the new Me.”

Wendi and I spent what remained of the evening playing Diablo II. There are worse ways to kill the couple of hours before bedtime. I have this vastly-overpowered former Burizon who now packs a Silence runeworded crossbow, and I’m using her to help Wendi’s awesome cold-based Sorceress through the last part of Act I Hell. Yes, this is what we do for fun “as a couple.” Well, one of the things. *smirk*

Work has been moderately hellish, but I’m not really in a whining mood, so I’ll just leave off here. And pray my headache goes away before I’m dragged to dinner with a houseful of Mormons.

  • Sunday Morning Bits Of Random

I woke up to a phone call from The Imperial Princess of Cute. (I was sleeping in, okay?) We may get together for lunch or something this afternoon. Yay! My assigned task is to phone up Lilith to see if she’s available to join us. Double yay!

Suddenly appearing on the Top 30 list of search queries, it seems that a dozen people have found this site by searching on the phrase “we hate ryo ohki.” I hasten to point out that nobody affiliated with greyduck.net hates Ryo-ohki. Who could possibly have a black enough heart not to love such a cute, fuzzy, adorable battleship?

The Lupin III series has its moments, but I don’t think I’m going to make a point of recording them anymore. Wow. 70’s-style anime. *shudder*

On the flip side, I’m afraid that Wendi and I are now devoted InuYasha fans. (Great, Mari and I can have InuYasha v. Ranma 1/2 arguments. At least they’re both Rumiko Takahashi stories.) “Yes, big sit.” Mwahahaha! It’s sort of amusing to hear how many voices from the Gundam Wing dub are involved in the InuYasha dub, I might add.

There’s a big square hole in the ceiling of the kids’ room. We have no idea when the repair will be done. Neat, huh? Turns out the roof has a big crack in it, so not only does the ceiling need to be repaired but the roof over it also. At times like this I’m glad we rent instead of own this house.

Hmm. I guess that’s about it. See you tomorrow, folks!
