PAST: What was the first book you can recall reading?
PRESENT: What are you reading now, or if applicable what’s the most recent book you read?
FUTURE: Name some books you’ll be adding to your personal library when time and finances permit.
I was a quarter of the way through “Rise of a Merchant Prince” by Raymond E. Feist when I realized there was a PPF that needed preparing. (For the record, I’ll be skimming through large portions of that particular book. Watching Roo Avery make an ass of himself for several hundred pages isn’t my cuppa, so I’ll be looking for the other plot threads.)
As always, I beg of you to leave a comment so we know you were here and felt inclined to answer, so we can find and enjoy those answers. When you link back, please use the following useful permalink: http://greyduck.net/ppf/
Thank you all, yet again!

I’m the first — give it up for ME! Whoop-whoop!
First: oldest children’s book I remember is Clovis the Crawfish. First book I remember reading myself was White _Trumpet of the Swan_ although I am sure Dr. Suess snuck in ahead of him.
Present:
Fun reading. Lois Bruhold _Cetaganga_, Andrew Greeley _Confessions of a Parish Priest_, I forget their names and it is downstairs, _Gotham_, U.S. Grant _Memoirs_,
Adding to my library: just made a big book run a couple of months ago and still running through it. After that:
Jonathan Edwards, _Works_, more women’s history, more indian history, more early modern history. I think I still have 20 or 30 things sitting in my Amazon shopping cart waiting for a future book purchase.
… a topic that’s close to me nerdy little heart 🙂 will be up shortly.
First Book Read: Depends on what you mean by Book. At 3 I was reading the “See Sam Sit” books. (My mother was a teacher) Otherwise. Uncle Wiggleys Adventures
Presently Reading: “Bring Me the Head of Anne Boleyn” compilation, “The Soccer War” by Rysard Kapusczinski, “The Nudist on the Late Shift” by Po Bronson, and “Godel meets Einstein” by Palle Yourgrau (I always read at least 2 books at once.)
Future: God only knows. I spend about $100 – $150 a month on books not including technical books
Mine is up 🙂 I agree with Celina! I love this topic and i could write about book stuff forever 🙂
PAST: Though I’m certain it’s not the first book I read, my earliest reading memories include mostly Encyclopedia Brown books, and a book called The Mad Scientist’s Club. God I loved (and occaisionally still read for nostalgia reasons) that book.
PRESENT: I’m currently about 75 pages into Neuromancer by William Gibson, and I like it so far. I just finished Ender’s Shadow, the sequel to Ender’s Game, recently (both books are by Orson Scott Card). Also recent was Battle Royale, by Koushin Takami (though I read the English translation of the original).
FUTURE: I’d like to read more of the Ender-related books by Orson Scott Card. I’ve heard good things about The DaVinci Code, and I’d also like to read more of the Dune series. Some more comedic books on my horizon are Dave Barry’s next book (Boogers Are My Beat), and books by Jimmy Fallon and Jon Stewart (I Hate This Place and Naked Pictures of Famous People, respectively).
@ Allie: Definately try to read Dracula. The story is a suspense classic, and the presentation is very clever — all in the form of journal entries or letters by the protagonists, mixed in with plot-detail-revealing newspaper clippings and telegrams that only the reader gets the benefit of reading. 😉
great questions. got my answers posted now.
Put my answers on my blog as well, now.
I’m up! This was a great excuse to post a link to my amazon.com wish list!
PAST: What was the first book you can recall reading?
The Chronicles of Narnia. My mother read them to me when I was about 4 years old… By 5 1/2, I was reading them back to her. I love those books…
PRESENT: What are you reading now, or if applicable what’s the most recent book you read?
I’m currently reading ‘The Holy Book of Women’s Mysteries’ by Z. Budapest. As well, I’m looking over ‘The Erotic Cookbook’.
FUTURE: Name some books you’ll be adding to your personal library when time and finances permit.
More pagan religious texts… My library is woefully lacking, and I’m trying to get back into actually working the religion instead of allowing it to wash over me passivly.
Mines up =)
PAST: I can recall reading our Mother Goose Treasury. And I had a real thing for Word Bird 🙂
PRESENT: Right now, I’m reading the brain-cell killing Cosmo’s Guide to Living Together. It’s funny, but very 70s and very, well, Cosmo.
FUTURE: I have a wish list on Amazon.com, but I actually have to work through a bunch of classics that I bought and haven’t had time to read yet before I get to building up more of my library.
*Waving* Heya!
PAST: The first book I recall reading was from the Sweet Pickles collection. I was just a kid and learning to read. I loved those books, and I still have the majority of them somewhere in a box.
PRESENT: What am I reading now? I am going back and forth between school text books and my HG Wells collection.
FUTURE: I would like to add more biographical titles to my collection, as well as some history books (like on the Tudor dynasty). I’m also interested in reading Dracula for the first time.
Thanks! Mine’s up on my journal. 🙂
