After being sick for most of a week and a half I’m back on the Satisfactory grind, and…

…no. I’m not doing this. I’m not building a factory on the scale of my previous Crystal Oscillators site in the middle of the Northern Forest biome. Maybe if we had the ability to explode parts of the map itself, I’d think about it. As it is? That’s too much terrain going on. I’d have to start building dozens of meters above the median base terrain (whatever value that might be) and… no.
But I want those raw materials, so I’m going to do something I have actually never done before: Shipping copper and iron ingots via railway.
To where? Don’t know yet, though the Dune Desert is a likely option. Vast stretches of that biome remain untouched by concrete except for the occasional railway support pillar.
Anyway.
I need many hundreds per minute of both copper and iron ingots somewhere in order to start the Oscillators factories (Crystal and Superposition). So earlier this week I ran some more train lines, including a cross-link to the railway running through one of my Rocket Fuel power plants, and today I slapped down a train station & placed several rows of smelters to supply it.

Funny thing is, what I’m doing is what a lot of Satisfactory players do as a matter of course: Haul raw materials from the source over to some other location to be processed in a big factory. I almost always build “on site,” then ship finished products around the map. Does this signal a change in how I’ll approach future runs? Maybe. First I have to see how this experiment pans out. Wish me luck.
Next time: Hopefully something not in the Northern Forest.
