Past, Present, Future – Round Thirty-five

PAST: Mickey Mouse, rotary, cordless… what kind of phone did you have in your house, growing up?

PRESENT: Describe your current relationship with mobile phone technology.

FUTURE: What do you suppose is next? Implanted cellular technology? Videophones? (Yeah, they’ve been promising that since just about forever, huh?)

Yes, I have telephones on the brain this morning. We lost service at home yesterday, so I had to wait until I could get in to the office to post this PPF!

Le sigh.

You know the drill, folks. As always, thanks for participating and do come again.

PAST: Mickey Mouse, rotary, cordless… what kind of phone did you have in your house, growing up?

We had a rotary for a while, an ugly creamy yellow color, then we had a series of push-button phones, normally in a drab dark brown (mom always got the worst-colored phones…), and mom now has a cordless one in white.

PRESENT: Describe your current relationship with mobile phone technology.

I hate phones. I truly do. I have a cordless phone at home, and a “landline”, but no mobile phone. Not yet… I’ve been holding out until I can actually afford the start-up fees.

FUTURE: What do you suppose is next? Implanted cellular technology? Videophones? (Yeah, they’ve been promising that since just about forever, huh?)

Probably some sort of implant in the ear canal, that will irritate the hell out of anyone who tries to use it, and will cause millions to go crazy because of the feedback when someone yells at them…

PAST: We had rotaries and then a push button (which I thought was SO cool LOL).

PRESENT: I have a corded push-button, a cordless and a mobile, named LopLop.

FUTURE: In the future, I’d like to see a headband that reads your mind, so you never have to remember numbers, just “call so-and-so.” With optional talk/think so you can have private conversations if you share a house.

PAST: I may be showing my age here, or maybe just rural upbringing, but the first phone i remamber was a rotary with a party line! I think our ring was two short, one long.

PRESENT: A push-button and a cordless here in the house, plus my company-leash Nextel w/two-way radio. Oh yeah – I’m a phone tech, so I deal with it all day long.

FUTURE: I expect implanted phones; we heve the technology today to make them smaller than they are, you just wouldn’t be able to use them because of their small size. That’s one of the reasons they keep shoving stuff into them like cameras – have to use up the room somehow.
