PAST: When we’re kids, we don’t know any better. This is true of so many things, but for our purposes this week we’re talking about movies we loved that make us cringe today. Tell us about one or two movies that you used to love that you probably shouldn’t have.
PRESENT: As we reach adulthood we learn, among other things, that some bad movies are their own reward. Whether they’re a guilty pleasure or just an excuse to get friends together for a riffing session, what skeletons are lurking in your cinematic closet?
FUTURE: You have the (substandard) equipment, you have the (miniscule) budget, you even have some poor schmucks who’ve been conned into being cast and crew. Lights! Camera! Action! But wait, what’s this deliberately schlocky movie about?
As always, leave a comment with either your answers or a link thereto. And when you link back, do so to this URL which always directs visitors to the latest version: http://greyduck.net/ppf/
(Yes, I know my answers aren’t in yet for last week. It’s been a long, long week in several ways, okay? I’ll take care of it this weekend, honest.)

Mine are up! Weeee… I’m the first!
Done, and done!
Past: I would watch some of those cheesy movies that HBO and Cinemax would pick up the rights to for a song and run into the ground every third month. For instance, Megaforce. The Pirate Movie (I transcribed lyrics to almost every song, before I knew it was a bastardized Penzance thing). Superfuzz. Dreck, megatons of dreck. (I sort of want to MSTie Megaforce some time, though.)
Present: Other than my anime, I’ll watch just about any cheesy sci-fi action adventure type movie as long as I get to riff on it. Our recent viewing of Stargate, for instance. That was fun.
Future: Probably some sort of weird “pod people” thing where my friends go to sleep alongside strange organic-looking objects and wake up with radically different personalities. And, uh, no I don’t have much more plot beyond that. Could be fun to do, though…
Mine is up
Third one’s the charm *grin* Mine’s up!
done!
There’s my contribution…
up!
Ah – cinema PPF!
PAST:
I think I’ve actually blocked all memories of horrible films from my past. . .it helps that I really didn’t get to watch too many of them, aside from the “classics” (Disney, John Wayne, Doris Day and AUNTIE MAME).
PRESENT:
My favorite bad movies are anything from the HALLOWEEN or FRIDAY THE THIRTEETH series. I wrote just a month ago, I think, that I was probably the only person in the US who actually rented the most recent HALLOWEEN (with Tyra Banks and Busta Rhymes – who broke through the stereotype that black people always get killed in horror movies :P).
FUTURE:
I think if I had to do a campy movie, it would have to be horror. In fact, when I did a campy movie for my Spanish class in high school, it was horror 🙂 There was a classic scene where one girl gets hit by a car (complete with fake blood) and then another girl runs out of her house with a hot dog because she needs the ketchup that we’ve smattered all over the “dead” girl.
here’s mine 🙂
