Artsy time-lapse movies rock.

Here’s something about me I bet you didn’t know: I love artsy time-lapse movies. This dates back to the mid-80s, living in Seattle, and going to see Chronos at the IMAX theater with my best friend Steve McMullen. (I wonder whatever happened to him.)

Chronos is short, but very very cool. You can, or could, buy it on VHS but it loses a bit of its appeal on the small screen. If OMSI ever wants my undying affection and permanent membership, they’ll arrange to show me Chronos on the OmniMAX some day. (Look at it this way: It’s gotta be better than watching a Star Wars prequel projected onto the inside of a giant dome.)

Ah. Apparently it is out on DVD. Note to friends: Buying me Chronos on DVD will make you my very bestest friend for life. Really.

Where I was going with this, before I got off on a rant about Chronos, was that I wanted to link to the website for Koyaanisqatsi, the other really cool artsy time-lapse movie I enjoyed back in the mid-80s. Turns out there’s a third movie in the now-trilogy, so they’re doing a wee bit of promoting for it. (For the record, Koyaanisqatsi is mostly cool but sometimes feels like it will go on forever. Powaqqatsi didn’t do much for me when I saw it. I’ll have to see about watching both of them again soon to see if my perceptions have changed.)
