  • Past, Present, Future – Round Sixteen

Life is full of questions, many of them with unsatisfactory answers.

PAST: When we’re children, we often aren’t aware that some questions are best asked with a certain amount of discretion. Tell us about a time you piped up with a good question at the wrong moment.

PRESENT: Right this moment, what’s the one burning question on your mind?

FUTURE: You have a foolproof truth serum. You have the means, motive and opportunity. Who, and what question, do you ask?

Lilith probably doesn’t remember sending me this week’s seed idea, but that’s okay. Leave a comment, folks, so we know where to find your answers. And when you link back, please use http://greyduck.net/ppf/. Thanks!

  • Past, Present, Future – Round Fifteen

PAST: How amazing! A little box with a telescoping bit of metal and two knobs, out of which comes a variety of noises! What’s the earliest experience with radio you can remember?

PRESENT: If you listen to anything on the dial at all nowadays, what does it tend to be?

FUTURE: In a dystopian (or utopian) future where nobody really listens to radio anymore and the big corporations have all left the game, you’re given control of a big antenna on a hill somewhere to do with as you please. How will you choose to abuse the airwaves?

Once again, please comment with either your answers or the location elsewhere thereof. Thank you! The permalink back to the most current PPF is just below.

  • Past, Present, Future – Round Fourteen

So here I am, surviving a week filled with workdays up to 14 hour long, sleep deprived, and looking at doing the 14th PPF, when it hits me like a lead pillow what this week’s seed idea should be.

PAST: – Ah, the boundless, insane energy of youth. Do you remember the longest stretch of time you stayed awake?

PRESENT: – I’ve heard of people who only need five hours, while I’m closer to nine. How much sleep per night do you need now in order to feel hale and whole?

FUTURE: – In a world where sleep has been rendered irrelevant by advanced medical technology, what do you do with all of that extra time in the day… or night, for that matter?

Sleep on it first if you have to, but your answers (or a link thereto) should appear in the comments when the time is right. When linking back, use the following: http://greyduck.net/ppf/

  • Past, Present, Future – Round Thirteen

PAST: – When we’re young, we tend to believe the silliest things. Superstitions like “step on a crack,” for instance, wreak havoc with our grasp of cause-and-effect. What childhood superstition kept you hopping, as it were?

PRESENT: – Discarding probability math in favor of superstition, what’s your lucky number and what’s it done for you lately?

FUTURE: – Gazing into your crystal ball for a moment, do you see the world becoming more cold-eyed and skeptical, or more prone to voodoo philosophies and superstitions? In the end, will the likes of James Randi and Michael Shermer win, or will the John “Crossing Over With” Edwards of the world triumph over sense and reason?

Gee, are my prejudices on full display or what? Hey, it’s my meme, so deal with it. Thpppt.

You know the drill, ladies and germs. Leave a comment (quack me up!) with your answers or a link thereto, and if you should choose to link back here, please use http://greyduck.net/ppf/ as that will always point to the most-current entry. Thank you!

  • Past, Present, Future – Round Twelve

Twelve. A dozen. Which makes me think of eggs. Which makes me think of chickens. Both of which make me hungry…

PAST: I can’t resist. It’s just too damned easy: which came first, chicken or egg?

PRESENT: Let’s push this week’s theme to greater levels of absurdity. Are you easily egged on, or are you fundamentally chicken?

FUTURE: And now for the ultimate in eggcitement. You have the technology. You have financial backing. You have a diabolical plan to improve chickens everywhere… what will you do? And does it involve world conquest? (Hey, can you imagine anything more diabolical than achieving global domination through the use of mutant chickens?)

Flames, puns, your answers or a link thereto should appear in the comments. (Be nice, folks. It’s been a fowl week for me.) Should you decide to link back, the most-current entry is always at http://greyduck.net/ppf/.

  • Past, Present, Future – Round Eleven

I knew I forgot to do something last night. *sigh*

PAST: – Spring is in the air (so break out the Allegra, Claritin and other antihistamines). From freshly-mown grass to blossoming flowers, this season has many of the most invigorating odors. And since the sense of smell seems most closely tied to memory, I’m sure that whenever you get whiff of, say, a warm spring rain, you’re immediately reminded of times gone by. Aren’t you?

PRESENT: – What’s a scent that you deliberately seek out when you want to improve your mood or make an already good day even better?

FUTURE: – I’ll make this one quick, easy and silly. “Today I’m unveiling my new fragrance, an intoxicating and sensual blend of pheromones and extracts that I call ________.”
