Random Bits: Mid-May 2025

I haven’t had enough to say about any specific thing to flesh out an entire post… though I suppose I could go back to my pre-Twitter use of this site to simply post very short status updates and minor thoughts… maybe. We’ll see. In the meantime, here are a few tidbits from my recent life:

The first two episodes of the Murderbot TV adaptation dropped on Apple’s streaming service late last week and so far I like pretty much everything they’ve done. The changes to work in the new medium are smart and their choices on what to keep and what to streamline from the novella are smart. The actors are doing great. Everyone involved seems to completely understand the assignment. Honestly, no complaints as of yet.

We went to Costco yesterday to get our physical membership cards done up. And yes, that means I unmasked in a big crowded space for a couple of minutes for my photo ID. I’m not thrilled about this. At any rate, Costco certainly is a very large box filled with many boxes of various sizes and shapes. We came away with a few household necessities (and a few items much less necessary, as can happen sometimes). I’ll probably stick to ordering online but at least now I have a better idea what’s on offer and in what quantities. Having the ID card means that Vyx can go there if she wants to on the odd Friday night or whatever.

I finally figured out an Acolyte class playstyle I like in Last Epoch… and of course it’s the full Necromancer “summon all the pets” style. Now all of the class options are open to me, suiting whatever mood I’m in when I start up the game.

The work co-op Satisfactory game got in a session last night for the first time in a few weeks, with all hands on deck this time. The new guy built a coal power plant (using one of my plants as a guide), and I refactored the steel production line to better suit our needs… which is great, but at the end of the session we got the improved steel alternate recipe so guess what I get to do again in the next session? Ah well, such is the way of things.

I set up the hummingbird feeder again, this time with an active camera. I don’t know if I’ll get any bird videos but I figure it’s at least worth another try. Given the (messy) state of things below the perch (ahem) when I went out to change the sugar-water yesterday, I’m pretty sure the feeder’s at least getting some customers. I’ll share clips if I can get any.

Now that we’re at roughly the midpoint of the Spring ’25 anime season, I think I’m only really invested in a couple of shows. I’ll put together a post about that here soon, since anime stuff really does belong in its own space.

And that’s what news there is, such as it is, for now.
