  • Past, Present, Future – Round Forty-two

    PAST: Life…

    PRESENT: The Universe…

    FUTURE: And Everything!

Think of this as the Douglas Adams Memorial PPF. (Like, check out the PPF #, man.) Or, think of it as a cheap cop-out in lieu of real thought-provoking content. No, scratch that; I definitely want you to think of it that first way. C’mon, have some fun with it! Be creative!

And once you’re done being creative, let us know about it via the comments. Thanks!

  • One of the odd little reasons I enjoy my job.

I knew that these critters are out there, but knowing and seeing are two different things.

Today I saw a computer in a slot all on one card, CPU and RAM and video chipset and all… and its operating system is stored on CompactFlash just like you’d find in your digital camera. How cool is that, huh? My mind immediately turned to thoughts like, “Hey, I wonder if I can get Linux on that thing?” (I couldn’t do any worse than Telos, who decided NT4 was the way to go. I was called in to troubleshoot because the “black box” telco equipment hub in question wouldn’t boot properly. Gotta love seeing BSOD on supposedly state-of-the-art studio equipment.)

I don’t know if what I saw was a true “passive backplane” machine, but until someone tells me otherwise then that’s what I think I saw. Cool.

Yes, I know, I know. I get excited over the dumbest, geekiest things sometimes. But hey, I’d rather be easily amused than difficult to amuse!

  • The mighty punster, Alex Fudd

So we were doing the bedtime ritual for the kids, a bit late I admit but nevermind that. During the prayer the bunnies started scrambling around in their cage. Afterward I looked over at them and asked, “What did you do that for, you silly bunnies?”

    And a young voice says,

“Be vewwy vewwy quiet. I’m scolding wabbits.”

Yep. That’s my boy. Only eleven years old and already he’s a funnier jokester than I am. Could I be prouder?

    Nope. I sorta doubt it.

  • I’m back. Finally.

I needed a vacation. It turns out I needed one from my online life as well as my job and home life. Correction, I needed two vacations. In November, I took them.

And now, I’m back. I’m back here, I’m back there, I’m back everywhere. Look for updates to the Anime Site, look for more frequent postings here, look for more frequent postings to the fora I frequent (all two of them, sure). Hell, if I can really get going, there’ll be creative video goodness in the not-too-distant future. No, I’m serious. Stop snickering. Stop it, I say! Thpppt.

It’s time to shake off the doldrums, stand up straight and bring my gaze back up to the horizon.

I’m ready. And it’s about damned time.
