  • Famous Friday Five

Once again, it’s time for the Friday Five. This week the theme is “fame.” Mind you, since I work in the “entertainment biz” I may have a different view of fame from that of most regular folks.

    • If you could eat dinner with and “get to know” one famous person (living or dead), who would you choose? – Groucho Marx. At least, that’s who I’d choose right now. Another day I might pick someone else. And this is assuming that “get to know” just means what it says and not something snarky.
    • Has the death of a famous person ever had an effect on you? Who was it and how did you feel? – I tend to experience a mild mourning for certain key entertainers, such as at the recent passing of Chuck Jones. I wouldn’t say that I’ve ever felt an ‘effect’ from such a death, however.
    • If you could BE a famous person for 24 hours, who would you choose? – What is this, the John Malkovich question? Seriously… I don’t want to be some other famous person. I want to be famous in my own right.
    • Do people ever tell you that you look like someone famous? Who? – No, I tend to get the “you remind me of someone I used to go to school with” thing instead. Maybe some day other people will remind someone of me, instead.
    • Have you ever met anyone famous? – First, define “famous.” I work in radio, so I’ve met any number of famous, semi-famous and “locally famous” people. I had my picture taken with Lindsey Buckingham; that’s probably the most notable “famous event” in my life to date.
  • Call me shorn.

Once again I regale my audience with timely and relevant news like the following:

    • I got my hair “done” this morning. Terece always gels it kind of funny, but it looks great the next day when I do it myself. I should talk to her about that next time, see if maybe I can get her to undertand a bit better what I want my hair to do. No biggie.
    • I took two allergy pills this morning. Hence my current inability to concentrate or move very quickly. Damned antihistamines!
    • Peach-Pit from #KNRK is going to be at a cool horse show this weekend. I don’t know what this has to do with anything, but this is just an example of how poor of judgement I am when I’m on allergy meds. (Gotcha, Peaches!)
    • I got GnuPG signatures to work in Groupwise. Well, it’s a bit of a kludge but it’s better than not being able to sign messages at all.

There, don’t you feel all knowledgable or something?

  • Webcam down for a time

I‘m afraid you can’t spy on me for a while. I’m having more technical difficulties with the 3Com HomeConnect USB webcam under Linux, so I’m taking the cam offline until the HomeconnectUSB project on Sourceforge catches up to what I need it to be.

Sorry, no more peering at my cluttered office all day, folks.

  • What is good in life, Conan?

Today’s just another nice day in the life of this little grey duck. Hey, I got Cocoa Krispies for breakfast! Mmmmm, Cocoa Krispies. They’re better than those silly Cocoa Puffs any day of the week.

Speaking of things that are better, I was treated to more NoHo’s yesterday. Mmmm, NoHo’s teriyaki chicken is the best on the planet.

Why am I obsessing about food lately? Probably because I keep forgetting to bring anything to eat for lunch. Idjut.

  • Shades Of Blue

While blogsnobbing this afternoon I came across a link to a page that linked to a page that linked to AMP Comics, home of a comic book title called Shades Of Blue. By all accounts, Shades Of Blue reads like the fusing of MTV’s Daria and WB’s Smallville. As these are both programs I like, I find myself inclined to pick up as many issues of Shades as Future Dreams has in stock.

Hey, my comic book collection needn’t be entirely manga-based.

  • It’s a beautiful day

Perhaps it isn’t a terribly profound observation, but some days are simply better than others. Take today, for instance. I got a ham and cheese omelette for breakfast, a half hour or so of quiet family togetherness, a warm sunshine sky over my head as I took the bus to work, and a fairly quiet day at the office.

Not only that, but there’s been some success with synchronizing my Palm Pilot with Groupwise. Inbox, tasks, appointments and notes are all exchanging correctly. Now that I have AvantGo installed I can pretty much stop using the HP 620LX entirely. Well, except as an alarm clock. It makes a great alarm clock.

Think about that for a moment. The best use to which I can put my $850 Windows CE palmtop unit is as an alarm clock. And that, folks, tells you all you need to know about Windows CE.
