  • Happy Fun Time Workday

Today was one of those “hit the ground running” days. What with two of the stations’ sales teams preparing to swap cubicles on Friday, the excitement level is rising steadily this week. Some of today’s highlights include:

    • Production One’s Orban Audicy work station broke down. Turns out to have been a failed power supply, almost exactly like what happened to Production Three’s Audicy a couple of weeks ago. The power supply has been replaced and the Audicy is back in service.
    • The Linux server that the Audicy workstations log into is running a Netware emulator which seems to have needed a swift boot to the rear. So I rebooted that box and waited ten minutes while the storage drive was “scanned.”
    • One of our new AE’s needed to be gently informed that yes, you actually must click “OK” to log into the network when you boot your computer in the morning; otherwise you can’t print, run the specialized sales software or get at any of your files on the network. Whoops.
    • I changed out the lame-assed D-Link print server in the KNRK studio for an Intel we had sitting around doing nothing. Hopefully the NRK airstaff will be much happier with their printer now.

And that’s about it… so far. After all, it’s only 1:30.

  • April Fool!

I‘ve never been one for pranks, so I won’t bother trying to do one here. My brain just doesn’t operate that way, really. I’m more into verbal by-play than deliberate teasing.

In other news, today my good friend Heather is down in Cali at a job interview. If it goes well, she’ll be gainfully employed when she moves down there to be with her Darrell. Think good thoughts in her direction, please.

How was Easter? I’m glad you asked. I spent Saturday night hiding eggs both real and plastic. It was a blast, really. There were two eggs that escaped discovery for almost half the day. Alex and Erica had a great time, even if Alex wasn’t initally too thrilled at getting a plush rooster. (We bought Erica the bunny, we had to get Alex something, didn’t we?) On the balance side, last night the television was locked onto the broadcast of The Ten Commandments. Again. I hid in the bedroom with some McCaffrey reading. Pegasus In Flight and Pegasus In Space, if you’re wondering.

  • Gary Larson Moment

I picked up one of the “Far Side Last Impressions” daily calendars for Christmas, and have been enjoying pulling off each day’s entry.

The Easter Sunday entry is one that must be quoted here:

That evening, with her blinds pulled, Mary had three helpings of corn, two baked potatoes, extra bread, and a little lamb.

  • Little Washuu: The Wallpaper

Finally I got around to doing something about the fact that there aren’t enough Tenchi Muyo wallpapers to go around. (Hadn’t you noticed? Maybe not.)

My very first real artwork submission to DeviantArt is a wallpaper titled Little Washuu. Check it out, if you’re into that sort of thing.

UPDATE: Fixed the link. Stupid DevArt linkrot.

  • Full Color Karel

We’re kickin’ it old-school here on greyduck.net. I’ve fallen back upon my old technique of using WebCam2000 on Ryoko (the Windows machine) to serve up the webcam images. This gives me several benefits, among which is the ability to beef up the refresh rate considerably.

I was pleased to learn that there’s a new maintainer for the WebCam2000 project. Let’s hear it for new free software!

  • Weblogs.com? Who cares?

No point checking in with weblogs.com to see if I’ve updated, since I’m no longer pinging their server automatically. It rarely worked, and even when it did work it made the process of adding journal entries take much, much longer. Bleah.
