I just got the call. I’ve been let go.
My cellphone will go away shortly. My access to servers and what-not will go away. Oh, yeah, that means this website and a number of others hosted on this server will probably go away. That includes my email account, as well as others’ email accounts. If things suddenly vanish… you’ll know why.
And I have no good prospects, and I do not look good on paper, and I have no idea what I’m going to do now.
Wish me luck. I could certainly use some, for a change.

In the 10+ years in working with you, (hint… remember overnights in the old building?) you never once had a short word with me or “rubbed me the wrong way” at all. I’m sorry to see you leave and I know that others are as well.
With that said, I wish you all the best. You will be missed.
That is just fucking lame.
Damn it.
“Fucking lame” is putting it mildly. I can think of several better adjectives. And by better, I mean colorful.
John brought up a good point. Don’t forget about unemployment compensation while you are looking for a new job. And they will help you search.
This is major suckage and it kills me that after all you’ve done they are now letting you go. I hope this hurts them as much as this will hurt you. You’ll figure out the rest.
PS Go on monster (or some other site). You have the experiance…let it work for you. Even if you don’t have the certification, I am sure you’ll find something.
Aw man. I wish I had something to offer than condolences or words of encouragement, because I know how hollow those are when you’re down. But I really do hope and pray for the best for you, man.
That totally sucks the eggs out of birds. It’s really a jolt when you’re sitting across from the boss and he’s laying out your resignation papers– he’s not kidding.
GD hang in there, I’m sure something will turnip.
And again on the unemployment compensation (get your taxes taken out or you’ll get a nasty year-end surprise). Jobdango is also out there for you.
Condolances towards you; rage towards that building on Johns Landing.
I’m sorry, and I hope you get past this suckage quickly, posthaste, damn quick. And that the Powers That Be at least realize they’ve made a mistake.
Awww dude. What can I say that hasn’t already been iterated above? Hang in there Karel. Things always have a weird way of working out.
my sentamenets are with the others. Hang in there. You are a caring hard working indeividual. Something sometime somewhere will turn up. Don’t forget you’ve got a caring network of friends to help.
That just sucks. Dunno what else to say, though you can count me in with Bender and Sarah and the others.
Although I haven’t commented in very long time, this is still one of my daily reads along with the several others you host. I know words can’t possibly help and you are probably feeling quite hopeless however, your tenure there was a long and productive one, that simply has to count for something in finding a new job.
As to the umemployment, go to your nearest office and sign up NOW, there is a “waiting week” and you might as well get that started ASAP.
Karel, I have faith in you, your abilites AND your personality. You have weathered worse.
Oh those guys are in for trouble. In the meantime, there are a number of companies out there that would love to have you. I wasn’t so sure about my prospects a few years ago either, but belive me when I say, if you show aptitude (and I should think you’ve done more than ‘show’), you won’t want for work for long. Chin up! Brave heart! This is an opportunity!
Melissa is right — You should go and sign up for Unemployment today — Doug says that unless your former employers fight your claim, you should be approved – and if they DO fight it, the Unemployment office will do a review of your case… best to get that started ASAP — plus being busy will probably help your mood at least a little…
I am more than happy to help you tweak a resume — I can’t imagine that you would look bad on paper… You have a ton of experience and longevity at your former position and you have an aptitude for working independently without much supervision, plus you handled everything from End-user tech support up to System Administration for a medium-large company… I think you have the skills and experience to find a great job if you want.
The only other advice I might have is being open to going back to get whatever piece of paper they think you need. A lot of times they will help pay for it. I know you hate school, but your willingness to get that piece of paper that proves you know something may make a difference.
I am speechless. It saddens me deeply to see this happen to a good, decit and talented person-let alone one of my best buddies. If I can be of any help let me know.
Te ubesc.
*sigh* Things will work out…remember all that silly pep-talk stuff I told you last night. *mega-hugs*
[…] This month, my Number One Internet Fanboy had a passel o’ bad news, which may toast this blog. Or might not, we don’t know yet. […]
You have around nine years doing what your doing now, and you’ve been with the company since we were 19….Your not nearly in as bad a shape as you think you are.
*hug* I’m sorry. I wish I were there. But I have faith in you. You’ve been doing IT forever now — it’ll be okay.

Love ya babe!
Contact me.
You know I’ve been in the same situation about a year ago. Apply for unemployment right away. Hopefully you’ll get a severence, too. You do have skills. If you need any help with the resume, let me know. And there’s a dedicated job posting site for IT (although unfortunately the name escapes me now). You’ll get something!
Yeesh! I wondered where you went and it turns out that you’d vanished from my feeds list. I’m sorry that this happened. I’ll try to get caught up more later on. 🙁 *hugs*
