  • Zero, yet again

I’m rebuilding Zero once again. This time she has a lot less hard disk space, but I can live with that because I’ve given up attempting to do video-capture under Linux. I’ll be putting an All-in-Wonder Radeon into Ryoko soon as well as a bigger SCSI hard drive. Then I’ll use the plethora of Windows-based video tools instead of wrestling with the inadequate and incomplete Linux options.

Having done a few Linux From Scratch installs now, something has finally occurred to me that I should’ve thought of months ago: I’m keeping a log of various quirks and “undocumented features” as I go through the process of building all of the software parts I want. Every time I do this I get hung up on the same things. Maybe if I have a document to consult from the previous run-through I can save myself a lot of time and aggravation.

    Wish me luck.

Thank you, Cosmic Babe, for bringing up the good old “Geek Codes.” And you’ll note that I got the link right this time. What you see above is my updated Geek Code. (a- became a, and E—- became E—.) I was surprised to find that I still had my old sig file laying around. I never throw ANYthing away, do I?

Thanks to the Cosmic Babe, however, I now know about the Blogger Code. Far be it from me to miss out on a good blogging meme, so here goes:

  • Four down, nine to go.

As of some time yesterday, four of the thirteen available episodes of the Tenchi Muyo OAV have been transmogrified into Thumbnail Theater episodes. Halleluiah.

Having introduced most of the main cast we now arrive at the obligatory two episodes of crisis for our intrepid crew, in the form of Kagato and his (stolen) battlefortress Souja. I’m going to try to get both Kagato Attacks! and We need Tenchi! done in one sitting tonight, as they are a kind of two-part episode and it would be a shame to lose the momentum going into the second half of the story. Wish me luck.

  • Big McLargehuge

To celebrate the fact that Ben sent me an email today, I hereby post a little bit of MST3K-related funny he sent me a while back…

Here, for your edutainment, is the canonical list of all the various nom de plumes given to the big dumb bodybuilder hero from the MST3K classic, “Mutiny In Space”. The canonical list was compiled by Constance Crain, who is not, repeat, *not* a fangirl of any kind at all whatsoever. Really.

Some of the first names are quasiduplicates of each other. Complain to the MST3K people. They wrote ’em. 🙂

  • Tenchi Muyo Thumbnail Theater

A new site feature is unveiled today: The Tenchi Muyo Thumbnail Theater. I’m taking each of the 13 OAV episodes and, well, ripping them a new one.

It helps to be a Tenchi fan to read TMTT, but you might get something out of it even if you’re not.

    What do you think, sirs?

  • One step closer to the ideal

After a couple of days spent tinkering, breaking, unbreaking and tinkering some more, I can happily display the new journal-entry layout I’ve devised. What’s so great about it, you ask? The most important breakthrough is something you can’t even see: no longer is the layout of journal entries done by table code. The only table left is the calendar.

This is simply one more step along the path to a fully CSS-driven layout scheme. The page should also render just a little bit faster in most browsers. Not to mention that I just plain like the way this looks better than what I had before.

Pardon me while I bask in the dubious glory of my own accomplishments. Thank you.
