Rex on a Stickworks Moai at Orenco Woods

One fine day, I took the new camera and a bag of ducks to the Orenco Woods park. The entire facility is a work in progress; many trees and bushes and flowers are recently planted, the walkways are new, and so forth.

My timing was good. The sun shone, and some folks were assembling… things… out of sticks. I later learned that this is part of Patrick Dougherty’s “Stickworks” project. (Here’s the link for the Orenco Woods installation.)

They were nice enough to let me put a duck on one of the wooden Moai-looking structures. I hadn’t yet gotten the hang of the new camera, though, so this is a bit more blown out than expected.

Nobody would claim ownership of this giant fuzzy spider-shaped decoration, so I don’t know who to thank (or blame) for the result.

Eventually I remembered that putting ducks on things for photographic entertainment was part of my personal brand, and over the past year I’ve made sporadic attempts to keep the project alive.

Mind you, I don’t go very many different places so I don’t always get access to very many new fun things to put a duck upon. When TriMet started rolling out the new contactless payment system equipment, however, it occurred to me that I could at least take advantage of one new opportunity.

Now if only my phone’s camera hadn’t chosen to focus on the map behind the duck…

I can’t explain why I love this picture so much, but it’s far-and-away one of my favorites from this entire project.

It’s not often that the snack selection in the office kitchen provides a good photographic opportunity, but here we are.

    Rex on a Magnifying Lamp

As manufacturers try to squeeze more text onto smaller labels, we need a magnifying lamp just to puzzle out the serial numbers on computer parts. When not in use, of course, it makes a fine duck perch.
