While blogsnobbing this afternoon I came across a link to a page that linked to a page that linked to AMP Comics, home of a comic book title called Shades Of Blue. By all accounts, Shades Of Blue reads like the fusing of MTV’s Daria and WB’s Smallville. As these are both programs I like, I find myself inclined to pick up as many issues of Shades as Future Dreams has in stock.
Hey, my comic book collection needn’t be entirely manga-based.
Today’s just another nice day in the life of this little grey duck. Hey, I got Cocoa Krispies for breakfast! Mmmmm, Cocoa Krispies. They’re better than those silly Cocoa Puffs any day of the week.
Speaking of things that are better, I was treated to more NoHo’s yesterday. Mmmm, NoHo’s teriyaki chicken is the best on the planet.
Why am I obsessing about food lately? Probably because I keep forgetting to bring anything to eat for lunch. Idjut.
Perhaps it isn’t a terribly profound observation, but some days are simply better than others. Take today, for instance. I got a ham and cheese omelette for breakfast, a half hour or so of quiet family togetherness, a warm sunshine sky over my head as I took the bus to work, and a fairly quiet day at the office.
Not only that, but there’s been some success with synchronizing my Palm Pilot with Groupwise. Inbox, tasks, appointments and notes are all exchanging correctly. Now that I have AvantGo installed I can pretty much stop using the HP 620LX entirely. Well, except as an alarm clock. It makes a great alarm clock.
Think about that for a moment. The best use to which I can put my $850 Windows CE palmtop unit is as an alarm clock. And that, folks, tells you all you need to know about Windows CE.
The kids and I watched the Cartoon Network 1st 13th Annual Fancy Anvil Awards Show Program. It was moderately cute, and the kids probably got more out of it than I did. If you’re curious, you can read my review in the TV section. Long story short, though, is that it’s two hours spent watching Cartoon Network original material with some humans and Looney Tunes thrown in for flavor.
I was so busy playing Space Trader on Friday that I completely forgot about the Friday Five until this morning. Oh well, here goes anyway:
It’s the two-hour extravaganza with the silly title! So what is it, really? As far as I can tell, it’s an excuse to showcase Cartoon Network original programming.
Hosted by Johnny Bravo, the Fancy Anvil Show makes a good attempt to spoof all those other self-important award shows that air at this time of year. At the same time it gives CN a chance to run a few choice episodes of their core properties, namely Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls and Ed Edd and Eddy.
Some of the presenter bits were clever, the human host segments weren’t too painful, and the production quality was surprisingly good. On the flipside, the continual appearance of Goober and the Ghost Chasers as an award nominee was moderately absurd. I mean, who the hell cares about a Scooby Doo knockoff? I don’t like Scooby Doo in the first place, let alone cheap imitations.
As an obligatory beef, I’d like to point out that there was absolutely no anime representation on the show. None. No Tenchi Muyo, no Cowboy Bebop, not even any DBZ… and with the amount of Dragonball aired on that channel, you’d think they’d leverage that somehow. Ah well.
Overall, it’s cute enough to watch but not so great that you’re going to want to tape it for posterity.
