  • Back in the saddle again, yet saddlesore already

You know, being sick is no fun. I’m aware that this statement doesn’t really qualify as a stunning newsflash, but sometimes the simple truths bear repeating.

I fell ill Wednesday afternoon, was almost useless Thursday, was totally zombied Friday, was barely mobile Saturday and once again ambulatory on Sunday.

Which isn’t the same as saying that I’m all better, mind you. I’m still hacking up a lung every once in a while, and I’d really rather be asleep in bed right now. But I have a job to do, and by golly I want to do it. Being sick is no fun, after all.

  • DVD stands for, er, movies in my living room!

After months and years of wanting and waiting and whining, I finally busted out and bought a DVD player for the home-entertainment rack. It’s the Toshiba SD-2800, their budget-priced component deck. So far it’s been a reliable, beautiful piece of hardware.

We also picked up the DVD titles Chicken Run, the Princess Bride special edition, the Shrek special edition and for the one anime title I was able to grab I chose the Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz special edition. Lots of great viewing yummy goodness, folks! It almost offsets the fact that I spent my weekend oblivious to the world.

Aw, who am I kidding? I’m thrilled to finally have a “real live” DVD player. Crowding around the computer screen is not the way to enjoy a movie experience, folks, take it from me.

  • It’s my birthday and I’ll whine if I want to.

Oh, and while we’re on the subject of DVDs, how about a copy of my DVD wishlist? Remember, there’s only four shopping days until my 30th birthday!

    • The Castle of Cagliostro
    • Ghost in the Shell
    • The Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV DVD Collection Box Set (this one’s kinda pricey)
    • Princess Mononoke
    • Metropolis (the new anime movie, not the original Fritz Lang film)
    • Monty Python’s Flying Circus Complete Set Vol. 3 (2-Pack)
    • Monty Python’s Flying Circus Complete Set Vol. 4 (2-Pack)

That’ll do for starters, anyway. C’mon, c’mon, you don’t have much time left! Whip out that credit card and hop to it!
