  • Stupid Windows (and,) AmphetaDesk Rocks

We modem share in this household. That is, the server (in my room) has the modem, and everyone else utilizes the bandwidth (meager as it is) of that modem. Windows 2000 Server provides a way to share the bandwidth, as well as a “dial on demand” feature.

That feature seems to have gone insane lately. When the connection drops (as modem connections are wont to do) what sometimes happens is a double-dial. That is, a dialing session on top of a dialing session, and each interferes with the other. That’s not the annoying part. What really gets my goat is when, after one of those, you can’t get it to dial at all. Windows claims that some other connection attempt is being made, which is clearly a sack of horse manure.

So I have to reboot in order to get online again. I have just now done this. Yay.

I was originally going to write about AmphetaDesk, a really nifty RSS/XML feed aggregator. Instead I’ll just link to it and suggest that you check it out if you read more than a half-dozen blogs/journals/thingies regularly. It’s a damned nifty timesaver.

  • Death of a plastic utensil.

Whoopsie. Note to self, always check the oven before turning it on.

    Always.

  • Where do you go from here? I’ll tell you where.

I know, this thing’s pretty boring and you want somewhere else to be. There’s no Blogathon webring here (so how did you find me?) so… where can you go from here?

Go visit Mari. She’s cute, funny, smart, and doesn’t take stupidity laying down. (What she does take laying down is her business, not mine or yours.) Mari has been my friend longer than almost anybody else, and she’s damned good at being a real friend. You know, the kind who tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. She rocks, I tell you. Have I mentioned that she’s the Imperial Princess of Cute? Well, now you know.

Go visit Lilith. She’s sassy, forthright, principled and (oh yeah) sexy. We met because I was looking for taglines (most of the randomly-selected tags you see at the top of this page come from her collection) and what resulted was a quirky, fascinating friendship. Lil’s always trying to figure out what makes relationships tick, and has provided all kinds of valuable insight as I try to readjust and reorient my view of such things. Beyond that, she has a naughty turn of mind that comes through in unexpected and delightful ways.

Go visit Dawn. She’s the snarky, spiffy gal who roped me into an ongoing involvement with Sakura-Con, not to mention she’s the most generous contributor to my anime library. Supposedly she plays a mean game of Soul Calibur, but test results are inconclusive so far. (Heh.) We’re on one another’s brainwave far, far too often, though that can be a lot of fun. Dawn’s a die-hard Clamp fangirl, but I try not to tease her about that too much. (“Chii!”) Hey, how many people do you know of who named a computer Washuu? (That would be two, now.)

Hey, that was fun. I’ll have to do more of that… later. Stay tuned!

  • Moody. Ethereal. Pretty as all hell.

Thanks to Jaymi for leading me to Misanthropia. I will be snagging some of those images for desktop wallpaper. Hell yes.

  • Now, Jon Stewart

Thanks to Wendi for this great transcript of a Bill Moyers interview with the guy whose name is in the title of The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.

  • Finalist, Most Unfortunate Name Ever

Chatting with Annessa today, and she points me in the direction of a museum local to herself.

    The Cummer Museum.

Snark amongst yourselves. I’ll be over here, biting my tongue.
